Pray for Ferguson
On August 9, 2014, my cell phone alerted my via social media and CNN about another teen killing. I didn't think anything of it at the time, until I read the story. An unarmed BLACK teen was shot by a WHITE police officer. This took me back to last year with the Trayvon Martin story, Oscar Grant, Sean Bell and various but similar stories. Why does this keep happening every year? Protesting went on for awhile. Fast forward 100 days, and the judicial system that is suppose to protect all of us as Americans, says that there's not enough evidence. The judicial system makes me question who it really protects. I feel that if the pages were turned, and Mike Brown was white and Darren Wilson was black, Darren Wilson would have been taken into custody as soon as the police came. Yes, I believe that Mike Brown's body would have not been left in the middle of the hot street in the summer. The decision for a court hearing would have been put into place if the officer was black. He would have served time as well. Why is that? Why is the race card still being played in 2014? Do African Americans not deserve justice just like the rest of the Americans in this country? It's time to step and make a change. We have got to stop hating each other and come together as a nation.

I agree with all of that you said Jahleel. African Americans and rest of the minorities deserve to be protected and not be discriminated against because of their skin color, religion, or where they come from. I also think that we can't come together as a nation because we are always trying to compete against the other to see who is better instead of helping each other out. The day that we decide to start working together will be the day we take that first step as a nation to rid our country of racism.
ReplyDeleteI am not going to argue whether or not that racism does not still exist, because it does whether it be in America or any other country, but based on the evidence presented for this case how can you say that racism was the cause of this death or had anything to do with the acquittal of the police officer? There were multiple witnesses that testified and confirmed the story of Darren Wilson. Forensic evidence also confirmed that Brown's hand was near the officers gun upon the firing of the first shot. Granted there were also witnesses that testified a contrary occurrence than that of Wilson's and other parts of the investigation that seemed to make Wilson guilty, could you personally convict the officer after having read the evidence for and against Wilson and actually knowing what those jurors know? Wilson was held on trial by a jury of his peers; those peers were given the same information that was in the trial's manuscripts and probably more. So, yes I think a fair trial was held in the of Darren Wilson. If you would like to turn the tables and have a black man kill white individuals, look at the O.J. Simpson trial. It was not the exact same circumstances, but there was no cry of racism against whites when Simpson was ruled innocent. As far as the "race card" goes: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/16/bill-cosby-don-lemon_n_3935801.html I know people will think I am being racist by my remarks, but African Americans should be treated with the same respect as any other race whether that be Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, etc. I do not feel like there was racism involved in this case, but again I am not saying that racism does not exist. This whole situation is tragic, as is any death. Let's be proactive and find ways to prevent other tragedies like this from happening on both the civilian side and the law enforcement side, rather than pointing fingers and bringing up racism.
ReplyDeleteHere are the transcripts from the trial, make of them what you will:
